Professor Catherine Turner RN, PhD Cathy Turner has nursing and education qualifications, clinical experience in critical care and emergency nursing and a PhD in population health. Since 1992 Cathy has been involved in the tertiary education of nurses. In 2000 Cathy joined the School of Population Health [UQ] to teach epidemiology and coordinate the Master of Public Health Program. Concurrently her background in nursing education led her to develop and implement a new undergraduate nursing program at the UQ in 2004 for which she received a UQ Excellence in Teaching Award in 2005. It is in this context that Cathy has brought together a research team with a range of expertise to focus on workforce issues within the nursing and midwifery professions and population health outcomes by establishing the Nurses & Midwives e-cohort which is funded by the Australian Research Council and a range of industry partners. This has also led to the establishment of the Doctors e-cohort and Graduate e-cohort studies. In 2006 Cathy received a Fulbright Senior Scholar Award to spend several months at Harvard University learning about longitudinal study methods from the Nurses' Health Study research group. Cathy has also been awarded an NHMRC Fellowship [2007-2011] for her research on the e-cohort studies. In 2008 Cathy commenced as Head of School, was awarded a Distinguished Alumni Award from Flinders University and became a member of the Board of Directors of the Mater Health Services. In 2011 Cathy was appointed as an Assistant Commissioner of the Health Quality and Complaints Commission (QLD). Cathy has published over 90 peer reviewed journal publications and conference presentations and attracted over $4million in competitive ARC, NHMRC and industry grant funding within the last 5 years as the lead investigator.Click here for more information about Professor Catherine Turner.
Associate Professor Fiona Bogossian: RN, Midwife, DipAppSci (NEd) QUT, BAppSci (with Distinction) QUT, MPH Griffith, PhD UQ is currently Acting Director of Research at The University of Queensland. She has extensive clinical and educational experience in midwifery and nursing. She joined The University of Queensland in 2005 and pioneered the establishment of the first contemporary Bachelor of Midwifery program in Queensland. Fiona was appointed to the Ministerial Maternity Services Review Steering Committee in 2005. In 2007 she commenced as the Chair of the Midwifery Peer Review Panel and as a member of the Education Committee of the Queensland Nursing Council. She received a Churchill Fellowship in 2006 for Improving the Health of All Australians. Fiona's PhD addressed maternal morbidity after childbirth. Her current research focuses on the epidemiology of birth and motherhood, the evaluation of maternity services and the scholarship & innovation in teaching and learning. Dr Anthony G Tuckett RN, Dip App Sc (Nautical) (AMC), BN (ACU), Post Grad Dip Phil (UQ), MA (Research) (QUT), PhD (QUT) is the: Deputy Director of The University of Queensland/Blue Care Research and Practice Development Centre; Deputy Director of the Australian Centre for Evidence Based Community Care (ACEBCC), a collaborating centre of the Joanna Briggs Institute; inaugural Year 3 Courses Coordinator UQ Bachelor of Nursing (Princess Alexandra Hospital) 2006-2009; and inaugural International Coordinator (Academic). He has 19 years experience in the tertiary education of, and curriculum development for nurses. Anthony is currently working on or has completed research funded to in excess of $3.5 million in the areas of residential aged care, nursing workforce and workplace and open disclosure. He was the internal evaluator for the nearly $1.4 million funded Encouraging Best Practice in Residential Aged Care project. He is author of 40 peer reviewed publications, 6 research reports and has presented at 40 national and international conferences. Anthony established the School’s first international undergraduate student nurse exchange with the University of Auckland, University of Pennsylvania and the University of Virginia. He established the School’s first Cambodia Community Health Placement, completed in 2010. He is the 2001 Doctoral Fellow, Centaur Memorial Fund for Nurses.
